Following are some of the ways people can make a difference as a
Volunteer. The list is meant to be illustrative and is not
exhaustive. Also, often Volunteers will do tasks in more than one
area of service listed. The three general available volunteer
opportunity areas of service are: (1) Committees (2) Events and (3)
Gardens.
(1) Committees.
a. Greeter’s Station. Greet visitors, accept admission
fees, distribute membership
forms, An Ambassador of Goodwill.
b. Board of Directors. Fifteen member governing body who
decide policies and procedures.
c. Publicity. Promote the Garden and its events via
media.
d. Volunteer. Recruit, orient, new volunteers.
e. Garden. Help assess garden needs, priorities, plan, etc.
f. Events. Assist with Weddings, plan events in the
gardens.
g. Trail. Maintain and keep clear two miles of trails.
h. Ground
Maintenance. Deliver soil, remove fallen
trees, insure appearance.
(2) Events.
a. Weddings. Put up bunting, decorate wedding site, put
up chairs, drive people mover.
b. Annual Tea. Serve guests, usher, set up chairs, tables,
pour punch, tea.
c. Musical Events. Plan musical performances, perform,
recruit musicians.
d. Ethnic Fest. Highlight a particular ethnic group, plan
ethnic music, dancing.
(3) Gardens.
a. Gardening. Rake, plant, weed, and associated tasks.
b. Saturday Morning Garden Team. 9 AM to 12:00.
Experienced volunteers on grounds to
coordinate volunteers. Just come on in and we will put you to work"
c. Adopt a Spot. We will help you select an area
to be responsible for. Come on your own schedule to tend your plot.
d. Assist with an Ethnic or Specialty Garden.
Join a team already at work on a garden.
e.
Invasive species control. Come out on Saturday mornings or any
time. Garlic mustard: bring trash bags. Invasive roses: bring
pruning shears and heavy gloves. Pull where we assign you or adopt a
section to control.
