Antanas Smetona, first President of Lithuania  in 1919, and exiled to the United States in WW II, planted a tree and dedicated the monument bearing his name on October 12, 1941.

Monuments were also placed to honor other Lithuanian presidents, Aleksandras Stulginskis and Kazys Grinius.
